Getting closer

Well I had my first race of the year!! Kindof. I have been back in Kansas this entire year and am getting in the best shape of my life and am pretty excited about it. Being in Kansas and working with Coach Smith and the KSU track team has definitely rejuvenated me. Last year I struggled with injuries and basically any consistent training. Every time I started to get in shape I had some type of setback. I ended my season early due to my achilies injury. I took a longer break and started slow. The summer consisted of about four weeks off then a slow slow start to running. My achiles still hurt when I started but I worked a lot with the trainers here at KSU and got it under control. When the semester started I enrolled in my last two classes to graduate and started the long road to getting in shape. By November I was running completely pain free and averaging low 60 miles a week. I have had a few recent setbacks with slight muscle strains in my calf but nothing that has kept me out longer than a week. About three weeks ago I did a 700m time trial and considering I haven't done any speed work it went really well. I have been getting excited to race indoors. I decided to go to Nebraska and race a 1000m and an 800m this past weekend. The 1000 was first and the pace was slow but I felt really good but with 150 meters left my calf gave out and I had to pull off the track. I was pretty worried that I had hurt it more than I actually did. I can already run slow on it so I think I will be able to workout as early as next week. If I can I still plan on racing at the US indoor championships in three weeks. Well this is my first blog this season but I am going to try and write one as much as possible. That's it for now I guess. |
